Host preference of Thrips hawaiiensis for different ornamental plants

چکیده
Abstract Thrips hawaiiensis is a common thrips pest that damages the flowers of various plants. The differing population sizes T. among host plants suggest its preference and performance vary In this study, fitness for different was assessed through field investigation. behavioral responses to color volatiles eliciting apparent levels their development survival on were also studied. Adults larvae found in 21 species, which classified into four species. showed significantly visual olfactory tested (each representing one levels), with rankings preferences Dianthus caryophyllus > Tulipa gesneriana Hydrangea macrophylla Rosa rugosa , H. ≥ D. R. . Plant species had significant influences developmental times from egg adult 9.58 d, 9.92 10.35 d 10.75 respectively, corresponding rates 76.33%, 71.33%, 64.00% 59.00%. summary, study shows consistent flower tested. Further, plant are correlated rate survivorship Our adds understanding mechanism selection by provides basic information underpin management horticultural

متن کاملProspects for Genetically Modified Ornamental Plants
Nature of Work: The development of new and superior plants helps to stimulate excitement and demand, improve competitiveness and profitability, and ultimately deliver superior and more diverse products to consumers. Numerous sources of novel traits have provided the current diversity in ornamental plants including wild collections of whole plants and seeds, open-pollinated seedling selection, r...
متن کاملDevelopment and reproductive capacity of Thrips hawaiiensis (Thysanoptera: Thripidae) and its potential as a major pest.
The effect of constant temperature on development, reproduction and population growth of Thrips hawaiiensis (Morgan) reared on a diet of pollen and honey solution was studied. Although hatchability and survival rates from egg hatch to adult were higher than 79% between 15 and 25 degrees C, they were lower than 55% at 10 and 30 degrees C. Developmental rates increased linearly as rearing tempera...
متن کاملMicroprotoplast Preparation in Liliaceous Ornamental Plants
We aimed to produce intergeneric hybrid plants with only one or a few alien chromosomes via microprotoplast fusion for genetic improvement and chromosome studies in Liliaceous ornamental plants. In order to apply this technique, it is essential to establish an efficient system for mass-preparation of microprotoplasts. We have established 2 different systems for isolating microprotoplasts, one f...
